Mojākara explores themes of lineage, resistance, and land through performative gestures and still life arrangements. Translating to “defiant persistence,” Mojākara considers relationships with trees and agriculture while orchards, greenhouses, and plant life are targeted by the Israeli occupation in Palestine and Lebanon. Kuffiyehs offer protection, a step ladder mimics the act of harvesting fruit, and citrus and cedar are upheld as more than nationalistic and nostalgic symbols.

Mojākara was developed during an independent artist residency at the greenhouse artlab, University of Winnipeg. Using film and digital photography, darkroom practice, and research, Mojākara is a ritual of mutual sustenance and connection affirming that food has and will always be a form of cultural expression, vitality, and community.
