A fictive hookah lounge storefront, Lebanon’s Rose وردة لبنان is an ode to public spaces of gathering and cultural nourishment. The artist refers to her personal and family archives through symbols and placemaking, upholding quotidian objects for their sentimental aesthetics and embedded social narratives. Influenced by the events of the Lebanese Civil War, Lebanon’s Rose وردة لبنان is an imagined queer space for remembrance, connection, leisure, and pleasure

Still from Jocelyne Saab’s Beirut, Never Again (1976).
